My paintings are generally autobiographical and all derived from on-site sketches. They are all oil on canvas or oil and mixed media on canvas.
The Paris, Italy and Landscape paintings are semi-abstract impastoed scenes. Their focus is colour, texture, shape.
The Ideologies collection mark an exploration of the liminal in my art. The term liminal derives from the Latin 'limen' meaning 'threshold'. The liminal realm is a passageway between two distinct states of 'consciousness' (e.g. awake or asleep) and being. In liminal space our normal understanding of time which gives sense and order to experience is suspended. As a result, our understanding of ourselves and our environment may be altered in liminal space.
The Still-Life group of paintings, inspired by Spring flowers, is an ephemeral, atmospheric collection in tonal blues and greys.
In the Castle paintings, inspired by on-site drawings at Chateau La Marouette in the Dordogne, France, I aimed to capture the medieval majesty of this magical place.
